Provide literacy intervention instruction to students attending summer school.
Responsibilities- Meet and instruct assigned literacy intervention classes/groups in specified locations and at designated times.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Implement program materials and approaches for effective literacy intervention instruction and assessment throughout the 16 days of summer school.
- Assess student progress regularly; submit progress reports and communicate with parents as required.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress in intervention lessons.
- Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Interact and support other summer school classes as needed, prioritizing interventions.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow the SPS code of conduct and maintain classroom rules.
- Education student at American International College, Bay Path University, Elms College, Springfield College, or Westfield State University, with approval to apply in Springfield Public Schools.
- Available to work all days of summer school (Monday‑Thursday, July 6‑July 30, 8:00‑1:00 PM).
- Attend professional development week (June 26‑July 2, 9:00‑3:00 PM) and all sessions of the companion 3‑credit course.
- Provide a statement (max. 250 words) on culturally responsive teaching and attach current resume with application.
- Approved applicants must complete onboarding tasks with the Springfield Public Schools Human Resources Department on time.
