Position: Supervisor-Exceptional Learning Department (Anticipated position)

Special Education Administrator

Duties:

  • Reports to the Executive Officer of Special Education & Related Services
  • Supervises the special education process to ensure compliance
  • Knowledge and experience working with out of district special education programs
  • Acts as a liaison between the Springfield Public Schools and other private and public schools in the transition and support of children with disabilities
  • Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education and the status of services available to students with special needs
  • Assists in providing leadership and mentoring in the establishment of new programs and initiatives for children with disabilities through professional development to staff and families
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Executive Officer of Special Education & Related Services
  • Supervises, mentors and evaluates district Evaluation Team Leaders
  • Collaborates with school administrators, special education teams, and families to develop and review IEPS for exceptional learners

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed as a Special Education Administrator by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
  • Three to five years of successful teaching experience in the areas of special education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA 2004 and 603.CMR 28.00
  • Demonstrated knowledge in best practices in meeting the needs of all children with disabilities
