Job Goal:
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.
- Teach assigned classes according to the designated locations and times.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guide the learning process toward achievement of established district curriculum goals, communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Prepare for classes in advance and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor as required by the teachers’ contract.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of students or groups.
- Implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and performance expectations through instruction and action.
- Assess students’ accomplishments regularly; provide progress reports as required and communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Diagnose students’ learning challenges regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow the district code of conduct for the classroom, develop and enforce fair classroom behavior rules.
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals, providing written evaluations as required.
- Maintain a program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements and personal professional expectations.
- Takes an active part in the contractually-approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement regarding the results.
- Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among staff during the extended day.
- Attend established school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty, in line with the teachers’ contract.
- Contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well‑being.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Associate degree or higher in a subject related to the teachings.
- Five years of recent (within the last seven years) full‑time experience directly related to a trade shop and a state trade/union license.
- Passing score of at least 93% on the written and performance tests for licensure.
- Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (Information Support Services & Networking 9‑12), expected to be completed as soon as possible from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
