Job Description- Meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated times.
- Plan a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
- Guide the learning process toward achievement of district curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation as required by the teachers’ contract.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations and student needs.
- Implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations through instruction and action.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records per law, district policy, and regulations.
- Diagnose learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow the SPS code of conduct, develop classroom rules, and enforce them fairly.
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals, providing written evaluations as required.
- Maintain ongoing professional growth that satisfies district and personal expectations.
- Participate in the teacher evaluation process and contribute to mutual agreements on evaluation outcomes.
- Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and decision making.
- Attend school-sponsored activities such as Back to School Night, Open House, and other events as agreed.
- Contribute to decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and staff well‑being.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
- Appropriate English as a Second Language educator license and grade‑level (5‑12) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license.
- Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
- Salary range: $54,541 to $88,258 (BU Salary Schedule).
