Assistant Principal/Dean/Head
Dean of Students is a school leadership position focused on developing, implementing, and maintaining a positive, equitable, and safe school environment. They drive school-wide student behavior systems, mentor staff, and manage relationships with families to support student achievement. Common duties include managing discipline, conducting behavior interventions, and enforcing school culture routines.
Key Responsibilities- Behavior and Discipline Strategy:
Creates and manages school‑wide PBIS and character education programs. - Culture Maintenance:
Ensures the physical environment and student interactions align with the school’s mission of safety and structure, and runs grade‑wide and school‑wide celebrations and events. - Staff
Coaching:
Leads staff training on classroom management, school culture, and student engagement. - Family/Community Engagement:
Serves as a point of contact for families regarding student behavior and drives the home‑to‑school connection. - Data Analysis:
Conducts walkthroughs and uses data to identify trends in student behavior and track culture initiatives; assesses and drives student achievement through analysis of test scores. - Operations:
Ensures building entry and exit, transitions throughout the building, and events are run safely and smoothly.
- Master’s degree (or willingness to complete within five years) in student personnel, administration, counseling, or related field.
- MA DOE license: teacher, school guidance, school social worker at appropriate grade level.
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching or counseling experience in a school setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Solid decision‑making skills.
