Elementary Art Teacher

Position Description

A teacher at MLKCSE holds primary responsibility and ownership for the instructional planning and execution of the curriculum and monitors the growth and success of their students. The structure of each grade level team varies, but class sizes are consistently around 20 students with a maximum of 22. All grades are self‑contained and responsible for all core subjects as well as small‑group intervention.

We employ a co‑teaching model in Kindergarten and First Grade and use instructional paraprofessionals in grades 2‑5 based on class needs. As a full inclusion school, Special Educators provide push‑in support during core blocks and pull‑out instruction during intervention times.

• Submit daily attendance
• Manage student breakfast in the classroom
• Thoughtfully plan, refine, and/or supplement core curricular resources
• Provide dynamic, creative instruction that is high quality, engaging, and aligned with MLKCSE curricular guidance, Common Core State Standards, and Massachusetts Frameworks
• Maintain grading of students in a timely manner
• Collaborate with Special Educators, ESL Educators, and Instructional Leaders to ensure students receive necessary targeted interventions and support
• Participate in required collaborative curriculum development, grade‑level activities, meetings, professional development, and school‑wide functions
• Administer a variety of assessments, record and submit data, address findings, and integrate use of data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices and interventions
• Participate in regular interim data meetings with grade‑level team teachers and instructional leadership
• Identify students who are not meeting benchmarks and plan appropriate interventions, tiered small group and/or one‑on‑one targeted intervention and support
• Uphold the school's values, key systems, and accountability systems for academics and character
• Provide consistent and high academic and behavioral expectations
• Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with students, families, and colleagues regularly
• Consistently meet school expectations for professionalism and fulfill required responsibilities in a timely and professional manner
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Report to the Academic Director or Executive Director

• Bachelor's Degree
• Preliminary MA teaching certification or working toward earning MA teaching certification
• SEI or RETELL endorsement

• Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting
• Bilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to apply
