Job DescriptionBACPS is seeking dynamic, talented, and dedicated science teachers to join the BACPS school community. Teachers will serve as the primary teacher in a single subject area, collaborate with grade‑level teams to implement an inquiry‑based, standards‑based curriculum, and serve as Crew Leaders to a crew (the group of students). Teachers will participate in continuous assessment of students including ongoing targeted feedback, student‑led conferences, and end‑of‑unit exhibitions.
Teachers will collaborate with the school principal, dean of students, and curriculum coach in designing project‑based expeditions as well as family workshops and events, and be responsible for implementing and integrating new policies and services that support the school’s mission and instructional objectives.
- Teach subject area according to curriculum guidelines specified by the charter school
- Further develop and refine a high‑level, challenging curriculum in the subject area
- Maintain ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the needs of students
- Collaborate with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches and best practices, working to serve the various learning styles and needs of students
- Implement curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with BACPS mission statement, including understanding, modeling, and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving, and abstract reasoning
- Facilitate and mediate positive and restorative resolution of problems that might arise with students and/or parents
- Assess student performance continuously and objectively
- Develop a cooperative partnership with parents and students based on mutual respect and objectivity
- Hold parent/student/teacher conferences in a manner consistent with BACPS guidelines
- Participate in all professional development activities
- Participate in all staff meetings including school governance
- Demonstrate awareness of school/community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs
- May perform other projects and duties as directed by the principal
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an applicable field of study/education from an accredited college or university
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process and expertise in the specific content area
- Classroom teaching experience
- Demonstrated experience working with challenge groups in a standards‑based environment, including utilizing assessments to place students, flexible pacing, flexible instruction, grouping and regrouping, acceleration, enrichment, and independent study to meet student needs
- Demonstrated success in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach
- Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school community staff
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
