SPED Para Educator

The Special Education Paraprofessional is primarily responsible for implementing effective, rigorous academic and behavior intervention systems with a small caseload of students. This role involves close collaboration with students who need additional support, as well as their families and teachers, to enhance classroom success.

• Work alongside an experienced special educator to support a small caseload of students, driving academic achievement for students with moderate to severe needs.
• Implement an effective, rigorous academic and behavior intervention system for students.
• Provide consistent and high academic and behavioral expectations.
• Support student mastery of state, city, and school academic and behavioral standards.
• Lead daily individual and small group tutoring sessions.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

• High‑school diploma or GED.
• Sixty (60) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate’s Degree, or a passing score on one of the following formalized assessments:
  Para Pro Assessment or Work Keys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
• Current authorization to work in the United States – the candidate must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
• Passing scores on the Work Keys Exams:
  • Reading: 5
  • Math: 4
  • Writing: 3
