SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION:

The mission of Brooks School is to provide the most meaningful educational experience to our students. At Brooks, we recruit, employ, train, compensate and promote regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status and other protected status. We stride to be a place where a diverse group of faculty and staff want to learn, grow, and do their best work in an effort to support all aspects of a Brooks student’s life, both in and out of the classroom.

Our school thrives because of their hard work, initiative, dedication and compassion.

Brooks School is seeking a dynamic, passionate woodwind instructor to join its part‑time private lesson faculty. The candidate should be conversant with teaching jazz saxophone as well as orchestral woodwinds.

The Brooks School private music lesson program has been quickly growing in recent years. About 15% of the student body is currently enrolled in private lessons, which typically meet once a week for a 45‑minute slot during the academic day (roughly 8am–3:15pm). Private studios vary in size from two to about ten students, depending on the instrument. Students of any level of experience can sign up for private lessons.

Students work with their instructors to develop foundational technique on their instrument, gain fluency and confidence with reading music notation, and strengthen their aural skills and live performance chops. Instructors work with students to help them develop efficient, productive, and sustainable practice routines while supporting the work students are already doing in their various music ensemble classes at Brooks.

APPLICATION AND POSITION INFORMATION:

Brooks School believes that realizing a mission aimed at “providing the most meaningful educational experience its students will have in their lives” requires intentional work to build and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion for all members of our predominantly residential school. As such, we seek a diverse candidate pool that includes those who are traditionally underrepresented and less familiar with boarding school life.
