Tax Manager – Exempt Organizations | Boston Area
We’re currently working with a highly regarded public accounting firm in the Boston/Wakefield area that is looking to hire an experienced Tax Manager Exempt Organizations to join their growing team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a client-facing leadership role, working closely with senior leadership while managing a diverse portfolio of clients.
The RoleYou’ll take ownership of a varied client base, leading engagements across corporate, partnership, and individual tax, while acting as a trusted advisor to clients.
Key responsibilities include:- Reviewing federal, state, local, and international tax returns, including estimates, extensions, and audit support
- Advising clients on tax strategy, planning opportunities, and implications of regulatory changes
- Managing engagements end-to-end, including billing, realization, and client communication
- Identifying tax savings opportunities and credits to add value to clients
- Leveraging tools such as CCH Axcess to drive efficiency and accuracy
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong, long-term relationships
- Work directly with Partners, C‑Suite stakeholders, and senior finance leaders
- Lead and mentor junior staff (typically 1–2 per engagement), supporting their development and performance
- Get involved in business development activities, including proposals and networking events
- Strong focus on training and development, including structured internal programmes
- Opportunity to get involved in firm-wide initiatives such as recruitment, mentoring, and thought leadership
- Collaborative environment with direct exposure to senior leadership
- Clear progression path within a growing practice
- 5+ years’ experience in public accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field)
- CPA (or equivalent) required
- Strong technical knowledge across a broad range of tax areas, including exposure to exempt organisations
- Based in (or open to relocating to) the Boston/Wakefield area
- Willingness to travel regionally as required
