Mortgage Loan Underwriter (Senior Level Candidates Encouraged to Apply) Western Massachusetts Area Hourly Position: 40 hours per week Full-Time | On-Site During Initial Training, Then Hybrid

Our client, a well-established financial institution, is seeking a Mortgage Loan Underwriter who combines strong technical underwriting skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys evaluating a wide variety of loan products, making sound credit decisions, and partnering with colleagues to help borrowers achieve their home ownership goals.
What You'll Be Doing- Review and underwrite residential mortgage and consumer loan applications
- Analyze credit, income, assets, liabilities, and collateral
- Issue approvals, denials, and loan commitments within established authority
- Ensure compliance with lending guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Review appraisals and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Partner with loan originators and processors to improve loan quality and streamline the lending process
- Manage a consistent pipeline while meeting service and turnaround expectations
- Support secondary market activities, including pricing, commitments, and loan delivery
- Minimum of 2 years of mortgage underwriting experience
- Associate's degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience underwriting a variety of residential loan products, including conventional, FHA, Mass Housing, construction, and other specialized mortgage programs
- Strong knowledge of mortgage lending guidelines and regulations
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
- Professional communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
- Someone who values relationship building, contributes positively to company culture, and enjoys working closely with colleagues across departments
