Position SummaryThe DME Specialist/Fitter supports patient care by assisting with orthotic fittings and durable medical equipment needs in a fast-paced orthopedic practice. This role ensures smooth patient flow, proper application and removal of splints and orthotics, and provides patients with clear care instructions while maintaining accurate documentation and inventory control.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain smooth and efficient patient flow throughout the clinic
Position, transfer, and prepare patients for orthotic fittings
Apply and remove splints and orthotics
Provide patients with verbal and written orthotic care instructions
Document patient visits accurately in the medical record
Assist other departments with patient transfers as needed
Stock, clean, and maintain the DME room
Assist with ordering and inventory management of DME supplies
Perform related duties as assigned
QualificationsEducation:
High school diploma required
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience applying orthopedic casts and braces
Skills & Knowledge:
Proficiency in medical terminology
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to clearly explain procedures and instructions to patients
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and medical office software preferred
Physical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs
Frequent walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, and sitting
Ability to work at a computer monitor for up to 6 hours per day
Visual and hearing acuity correctable to normal in one eye and one ear
Medical office environment with adequate heat, lighting, and ventilation
Regular exposure to patients in a fast-paced orthopedic practice
Position may involve moderate stress typical of a clinical setting
