SummaryDaily activities are coordinated by the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT will perform a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to direct patient care; hygiene, skin care, mobility, and monitoring. The PCT is expected to perform all duties required for phlebotomy and EKGs, manage equipment, and assist in procedures on the unit. The incumbent is expected to perform other related duties as assigned.

The Cardiac Progressive Care Unit is part of the Cardiac Interventional Unit. The unit is a 33‑bed facility consisting of 12 Progressive Care Unit beds and 21 Acute Care beds. It treats interventional cardiology patients with post‑cardiac catheterization, post‑ablation, pacemaker implants, and EP lab transfers. The team is cohesive and supportive.

- Provides age‑appropriate care to patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for various age groups and applies developmental theories when implementing care.
- Monitors basic physiological parameters and records routine vital signs on schedule.
- Obtains and documents weights, heights, abdominal girths, and head circumferences (for pediatric patients) as ordered 100% of the time.
- Reports any significant deviations in vital signs, weight or drainage patterns immediately as outlined in procedures.
- Administers treatments and procedures per BMC policy and procedure.
- Changes dressings within one hour of the specified timeframe and provides post‑mortem care as directed by RN.
- Performs procedures outlined in the nursing procedure manual and assists physicians with exams and simple procedures while ensuring patient identification.
- Assists patients with elimination of body wastes, offering bedpans, urinals, and emesis basins promptly.
- Labels and sends specimens (urine, feces, sputum) within 30 minutes of collection and records intake and output accurately.
- Performs point‑of‑care testing.
- Assists in delivery of ancillary services, follows treatment plans, monitors patient condition, and notifies appropriate personnel of unexpected events.
- Documents treatments and activities consistently.
- Communicates effectively with team and patients, providing respectful and informative care.
- Initiates and performs emergency procedures, maintaining patient safety and communicating with appropriate personnel.
- Functions as a member of the team, assisting members with clinical and non‑clinical activities, providing feedback, and supporting career ladder programs.
Level I: Preferred experience: PCT training or CNA training preferred.
Level II: Required work experience:
At least one year of patient care experience (across any level of long‑term, specialty, or acute care).
Level III: High School diploma or GED required. Required work experience:
Three or more years of patient care experience, or at least one year as a Level II PCT at Baystate Health. C.N.A. preferred.
