This is a unique earn-while-you-learn opportunity designed for individuals who want to start a meaningful career in healthcare. You’ll be hired as a Medical Assistant Trainee
, receive paid training and full benefits, complete your education and externship, earn your Medical Assistant registration/certification, and step into a permanent role with Baystate Health.
As a Medical Assistant Trainee, you will:
Complete Medical Assistant coursework through Holyoke Community College
Participate in a hands‑on externship at a Baystate Medical Practice
Prepare for and obtain your Medical Assistant registration/certification
Transition into a Medical Assistant I role within Baystate Health upon program completion
Throughout the program, you are a Baystate Health employee
—earning pay, benefits, and valuable experience from day one.
Medical Assistants play a vital role in patient care, including:
Taking vital signs and patient histories
Performing clinical procedures and supporting providers
Managing clinical documentation and orders
Assisting with patient discharge and education
You’ll work in a supportive, team‑based environment focused on delivering exceptional patient care.
Program Expectations & ScheduleEducation Phase: 32 hours/week for 17 weeks dedicated to coursework
Externship: 40 hours/week for 4 weeks at a Baystate Health facility
Post‑Externship: 32 hours/week for 2 weeks, including RMA exam preparation
Ongoing Role: Full‑time Medical Assistant position after certification
Full-time, Monday–Friday
