Brief summary of purpose:
Under general supervision of the Clinical Manager and Primary Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant provides and documents the full range of Physical Therapy assistant treatments and tests to all categories of patients, supervises supportive personnel and participates in educational services. Acts as a clinical instructor and is responsible for teaching inter‑department continuing education/in‑services.
Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, performs processes involved in the delivery of age‑appropriate patient care. Provides care appropriate to the patient population served. Completes all required competency assessments.
- Identifies, reports and documents the need for modification of treatment techniques. Determines the causes of changes in patient's physical/mental status, tolerance to treatment, and unanticipated rate of progress, and implements appropriate modifications.
- Identifies, reports and documents acute changes in patient physiological status, communicates acute changes to Physical Therapist, and modifies treatment as appropriate within the plan of care.
- Implements the treatment techniques specified in the therapist's plan of care and all necessary treatment procedures for the specific patient population under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Utilizes all appropriate equipment per department protocols and standards.
- Communicates effectively with patients and caregivers, provides training related to patient dysfunction, and supplies educational materials appropriate to patient and family needs.
- Provides clinical instructions to affiliated physical therapist assistant students, accepts assigned students for designated clinical affiliation experiences, and cooperates with other personnel to achieve clinical education program objectives.
- Provides clinical education/instruction to staff and actively participates in the department's clinical education program, serving as an instructor for staff continuing education in‑services.
- Meets department standards for scheduling and productivity.
Education
:
Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
License/Certifications
:
- Driving your personal motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position and the following requirements apply:
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must attest to no disqualifiers per Driver Safety Policy.
- Must possess and provide proof of minimal state required auto insurance.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Licensure in Massachusetts or licensure pending via examination or reciprocity.
- CPR certification or willingness to be certified within 60 days of hire.
Experience
:
Minimum of 1 year experience with elderly population.
In accordance with the Massachusetts Wage Transparency Act, the pay for this position is $39.00 per hour. Final compensation will depend on the candidate's experience, skills, and fit with the role's responsibilities.
