Position Summary

The Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) assists the Chief Clinical Registered Dietitian (RD) in providing comprehensive nutritional care to a diverse patient population. The DTR plays a critical role in assessing nutritional needs, educating residents and families, and ensuring that all dietary interventions align with the facility's high standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities
  • Conducts initial, annual, and quarterly nutritional assessments on residents as needed to ensure individualized care;
  • Provides nutrition education and counseling to patients and family members regarding therapeutic diets and healthy eating habits;
  • Works under the supervision of the Chief Clinical RD to implement and monitor nutritional care plans;
  • Monitors resident food intake and weight fluctuations, reporting significant changes to the clinical team;
  • Ensures residents receive the correct therapeutic diets and food textures as prescribed by medical staff;
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (MDS, Sigma Care, and Gerimenu);
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team (nursing, medical, and therapy) to enhance the quality of life for residents;
  • Assists in the oversight of food service operations to ensure sanitation and safety standards are met;
  • Participates in care plan meetings to advocate for the nutritional needs and preferences of residents;
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of current dietetic trends and regulatory requirements for skilled nursing facilities;
  • Demonstrates exceptional time management skills to handle a diverse caseload in a fast‑paced environment;
  • Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere;
  • Concerns him/herself with the safety of all facility residents, adhering to legal, health, and sanitation codes;
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the complete nutritional care of all residents.
Specific educational / vocational requirements
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a nutrition-related field.
  • Current certification as a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Experience with MDS, Sigma Care, and Gerimenu preferred.
  • Experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility is a plus.

  • Participates in facility-wide quality improvement initiatives.
  • Carries out other tasks as requested by the Chief Clinical RD or Administrator.
