Certified Orthotic Fitter
The certified orthotic fitter is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing custom orthotic and prosthetic devices for pediatric patients, under the direct supervision of certified practitioners. This role requires advanced technical skills and a commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Measure and fit patients for appropriate orthoses; to act as a resource to staff regarding assigned areas of responsibility.
- Fabricates specific orthoses for inpatients and outpatients utilizing a variety of technical skills and knowledge
- Evaluates patients' needs per physician prescription, applying the basic knowledge of anatomy and terminology required to fabricate orthoses.
- Measures/casts for orthoses including more complex devices such as RGO's, HKAFO's, cervical orthoses, CTLSO's, and TLSO's.
- Modifies/prepares casts, vacuum forming and prepares plastic for final application.
- Constructs metal/leather orthoses such as AFO's, KAFO's, and HKAFO's.
- Operates grinding machines, drill presses, sewing machines, band saw, router, vacuum forming, and oven in a safe and skillful manner including the use of protective eye wear.
- Utilizes basic hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, bending irons, and vises in a safe and effective manner.
- Repairs orthoses and provides alterations to insure continued fit/function of the device in a timely manner.
- Under the direction of the orthotist, fits orthoses to patients assuring proper fit, patient comfort, and satisfactory function according to physician's prescription, in the final application of RGO's, TLSO's and CTLSO's.
- Provides written and verbal instructions to patients and families regarding the care and application of orthotic devices; answering basic questions and/or referring to appropriate resources as necessary.
- Participates in clinics to measure/cast for orthoses during cast clinic; to provide feedback to physicians and staff regarding need for or appropriateness of orthotic devices.
Required Qualifications
- Orthotics and Prosthetics Certificate (CTO, COF)
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of certified orthotic fitter experience
The pay range for this position is $26.58 - $39.86. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
