The Opportunity

Mass Mutual is seeking a Quantitative Consultant to join our Life Product Systems Implementation team as a modeler within the Product Implementation, Support and Process Integrity team. In this role you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product calculation requirements for new and existing life products and develop Python or Excel-based models to support and validate those requirements, ensuring accurate and reliable values for our Mass Mutual customers.

You will also support testing life product rates and values during life product launches and system upgrades, maintaining data integrity and process continuity. In addition, you will support existing life products during administration system conversions between administrative systems, maintaining data integrity and process continuity. When needed, you will also provide defect analysis and resolution to address system or calculation issues efficiently.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Own the development of models and requirements to ensure Mass Mutual customers receive accurate values from our systems and operational processes, including using models to validate system calculations, support requirement traceability, identify calculation discrepancies, and provide clear documentation for testing, implementation, and operational readiness.
  • Take accountability for deliverables, working collaboratively with team members to complete tasks accurately and on time while following established coding structures and standards for Python/Excel model development.
  • Plan and communicate effectively when multiple team members are working in the same python/excel model, ensuring coordination to avoid conflicts and maintain model integrity.
  • Communicate clearly with business partners, translating technical and non-technical information clearly and keeping stakeholders informed of status and deliverables.
  • Apply actuarial and statistical methods, leveraging tools and peers when needed to enhance everyday work.
  • Reduce costs through process improvements, automation, and strategic handoffs to business partners.
  • Navigate complexity and ambiguity. exploring multiple solutions while balancing the needs of the customer, actuarial functions, product, systems, operations, the field, legal, and compliance.
The

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a quantitative focus (e.g., Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data/Business Analytics) or in lieu of a degree a HS diploma with 10 years of professional experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with data analysis
  • 3+ years modeling in Excel, including formulas (e.g., XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, COUNTIF / SUMIF / COUNTIFS / SUMIFS), data validation.
The Ideal Qualifications
  • Life insurance expertise, ideally including Mass Mutual products and financial services experience.
  • Experience with life insurance administration platforms (e.g., trad Vantage, ad Vantage, Life Comm, Product Engine, MPR, OPM, Haven Tech).
  • Strong technical skills in Python, SQL, Excel VBA, advanced Excel, and workflow automation.
  • Experience gathering requirements and supporting business testing for system conversions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across business, ETX, and vendor partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
