This individual will play a pivotal role in supporting organizational leadership through process improvement initiatives, Board and Executive Team presentations, and continuous financial analysis that drives informed decision‑making.

Work Model:

Hybrid—three days per week onsite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, refine, and uphold accounting policies, practices, and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Drive initiatives that modernize, automate, and simplify financial processes.
  • Mentor and train accounting staff to function as trusted partners across the organization.
  • Deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Oversee audit functions and ensure compliance across financial activities.
  • Manage cash flow, prepare cash forecasts, and support long‑term financial planning.
  • Guide annual and multi‑year business planning with thoughtful, forward‑looking analysis.
  • Evaluate and prepare reports on property/entity mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Collaborate closely with Asset Management, Budgets, and Compliance teams.
  • Build strong cross‑departmental relationships to achieve organizational goals.
  • Communicate emerging financial risks or concerns to senior leadership.
  • Stay current on evolving accounting principles and best practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Ensure new hires are effectively onboarded and trained.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Identify strengths, development needs, and implement growth plans.
  • Lead hiring efforts for new or replacement staff.
  • Guide supervisory‑level team members in managing their own direct reports.
  • Oversee a team that may include the Assistant Controller, accountants, specialists, clerks, and temporary staff.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Seven years of progressive mid‑to‑senior level accounting leadership of 5+ employees, ideally in a nonprofit environment.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial regulations and/or real estate or property management reporting requirements.
  • Experience in property management or real estate development accounting is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office—particularly advanced Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex financial concepts to both finance and non‑finance audiences.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with internal teams and external partners (auditors, banks, investors, etc.).
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
