Position Overview
Deputy Director of Facilities Management (260004DV) at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility located in South End, Boston, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Reports to the Director of Facilities Management and plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient healthcare environment that supports high‑quality patient care.
This position will support LSH’s transition to a new hospital facility, contribute to long‑term capital planning, infrastructure modernization, and organizational readiness.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and administer the Environment of Care (EOC) program in partnership with the Director.
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation, NFPA codes, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage regulatory inspection, testing, and compliance programs; coordinate inspections and testing activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EOC and safety‑related policies, procedures, and compliance tools.
- Prepare and present reports, analyses, and recommendations on regulatory compliance, program evaluations, and corrective action plans.
- Provide technical guidance to departments and staff to improve operational procedures and safety practices.
- Contribute to strategic planning, operational effectiveness, risk management, and cross‑departmental collaboration as a member of the Facilities Management leadership team.
- Direct development and monitoring of SOPs, preventive maintenance programs, and equipment replacement planning.
- Ensure compliance with public construction and procurement laws during planning, bidding, and execution of projects.
- Review and audit vendor contracts, service agreements, and invoices for compliance and fiscal accountability.
- Serve on multidisciplinary committees such as EOC, Product Review, Quality and Patient Safety, and Infection Prevention and Control.
- Supervise, coach, evaluate, and develop staff; conduct regular supervisory meetings.
- Act as Facilities Manager in the absence of the Director and represent management in labor‑management meetings.
- Demonstrated understanding of healthcare facility operations, regulatory compliance, and environment‑of‑care standards.
- Familiarity with industrial safety, occupational safety, and life safety management.
- Expertise in public construction, procurement, and contracting processes.
- Experience managing construction, renovation, or capital improvement projects in a healthcare or regulated environment.
- Project‑management proficiency, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Capacity to interpret and apply healthcare codes, regulations, and standards.

- Project‑management experience in a hospital or highly regulated facility preferred.
- At least 5 years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in business administration, public administration, clinical administration, or a related field, with at least 1 year in a project‑management, supervisory, or managerial capacity.
- Substitutions: a certificate may replace 1 year; a bachelor’s degree may replace 2 years; a graduate degree may replace 3 years; a doctorate may replace 4 years.
Regulation Title 101 CMR 23.00 requires receipt of COVID‑19 and influenza vaccinations or mitigation measures.
Salary$92,644.84 – $ per year.
