About Commonwealth Fusion Systems

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as a Metrology Technician.

CFS is seeking a detail-oriented, hands‑on Metrology Technician to perform advanced laser scanning and CMM inspections in support of SPARC production and assembly. In this role, you’ll generate high‑quality scan and inspection data that enables the metrology engineering team to validate builds, troubleshoot issues, and keep production moving to deadline. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, takes pride in precision and documentation, and is eager to cross‑train and grow within Quality Control.

Hours:

3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Rate of pay: $30 – $43 per hour + 10% differential

What you’ll do:
  • Perform high‑accuracy laser scanning of SPARC components to support production build‑out and metrology engineering analysis, delivering results on tight timelines.
  • Operate CMM equipment and run inspection programs for special requests and receiving inspections; document results clearly and consistently.
  • Support daily calibration checks, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting for metrology equipment (laser scanners, portable CMM arms, and fixed CMMs) to ensure reliable measurement performance.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and audit‑ready quality lab by supporting 5S standards across Quality Control.
What we’re looking for:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in a manufacturing or factory environment.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) through training, coursework, or on‑the‑job experience.
  • Exposure to advanced metrology methods (e.g., laser scanning, CMM inspection) through prior roles, training, or technical programs.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical inspection fundamentals (reading drawings, using precision measurement tools, and documenting results).
  • Hands‑on quality inspection experience (in‑process, final, or receiving inspection).
  • Familiarity with advanced metrology tools and workflows (e.g., laser scanners, CMMs, portable arms) and an interest in deepening expertise.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Able to set up, maintain, and use common precision inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gages, ring/plug gages, profilometer, coating thickness gage, comparator, sine bar, etc.).
  • Experience operating CMMs and/or portable measurement arms (e.g., Romer/FARO) is a plus.
Bonus points for:
  • Experience with fabrication processes (machining, molding, casting, composites, welding, or similar).
  • CAD experience (modeling, drafting, or interpreting models to support inspection).
  • Basic data analysis and statistics familiarity (e.g., gage R&R, SPC, DOE).
Must‑have requirements:
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on‑call occasionally.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation with equity.
  • 13 Company‑wide Holidays.
  • Flexible vacation days.
  • 10 sick days.
  • Generous parental leave policy.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with employer matching.
  • Professional growth opportunities.
  • Team‑building activities.

At CFS, we excel in fast‑paced environments, driven by our values of integrity, execution, impact, and…
