DEPARTMENT: Production POSITION: Plant Supervisor - Night Shift REPORT TO: General Manager CLASSIFICATION: Exempt WORKING HOURS: Full Time, Shift may vary, Overtime as needed Kentucky is an employment at-will state. Position SummaryThis role is responsible for overseeing daily plant operations and leading the employees who support them. The position ensures strong performance across production, quality, safety, communication, and overall operational efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure smooth operation of entire production process including receiving, evaporating, drying, and bagging.
- Oversee all production aspects of the plant and production workers.
- Responsible for all product produced on the shift and all incoming raw materials received on the shift.
- Guide and direct warehouse staff when necessary.
- Ensure all products are manufactured according to instructions and testing parameters are met and documented.
- Handle all personnel issues during the shift.
- Perform supervisor checklist daily; notify Maintenance Manager or Supervisor of any equipment not working properly and follow through to resolution.
- Perform and oversee CIP checks.
- Supervise sanitation of equipment and plant to ensure all is done correctly.
- Confirm wastewater pit is operating correctly.
- Ensure all safety procedures are being properly followed.
- Train all employees and maintain up‑to‑date records.
- Train, retain, develop, and monitor all employees across all departments.
- Provide training/cross training of employees.
- Complete weekly schedules to control overtime and use of man‑hours efficiently.
- Ensure products meet company and customer specifications; review data to confirm process capability.
- Hold people accountable to doing their jobs.
- Schedule and maintain an accurate and efficient inventory system; maintain accurate inventory of finished goods.
- Coordinate with other departments for ordering, receiving, and monitoring usage of materials, ingredients, chemicals, and supplies.
- Call in and follow up on prompt issuance and completion of work orders.
- Work with maintenance on a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot to improve overall efficiency.
- Be on call and come into the plant as needed, including times outside of the normal shift and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain customer satisfaction at all levels.
- Maintain good working relationships with suppliers, employees, and customers.
- Maintain a high level of appearance and pride within the department.
- Inspect, review, and follow up on all plant and department audits.
- Identify and address any food safety hazards or quality threats; notify supervisor, Quality or Leadership Team.
- Attend all required safety and food safety training.
- Emphasize, train, and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP); enforce company policies and procedures, including attendance, safety, and discipline.
- Report occurrences observed or addressed during this shift promptly to the proper department head or plant manager.
- Monitor progress, performance, and capabilities of staff with realistic expectations.
- Adopt EEOC employment practices to limit turnover and retain qualified employees.
- Coach direct reports and identify key employees for future promotion.
- Document all employee and safety related issues accurately.
- Participate actively in loss control and food safety; promote safety and support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with HAZMAT team and training; enforce safety policies fairly and consistently.
- Maintain and monitor all LOTO, confined space, forklift, and other safety programs.
- Oversee proper completion of work comp reports and act in emergency situations.
- Work professionally and effectively cross‑departmentally.
- Communicate employee concerns promptly, consulting HR when needed.
- Communicate daily with other supervisors and employees on plant issues.
