Bridging The Gap Counselor

The Salvation Army's Springfield Corps is hiring a Bridging The Gap Counselor and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location:

170 Pearl Street, Springfield, MA

Hours/week: 15 hours per week;
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (1pm to 6pm)

Exemption:
Non-exempt

Pay Range: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

* starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications*

To assist the BTG Coordinator with the Bridging the Gap program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Help plan and assist Bridging the Gap Curriculum
• Review lesson plans and offer input
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• Attend at least one group per week as an observer
• Discuss each participant's progress with BTG Coordinator and interns
• Maintain a document of all participant's addresses
• Advocate for participants where necessary
• Talk to participants as required/needed
• Handle and teach teens at Bridging the Gap with varying personal backgrounds
• Attend training sessions as required
• Coordinate with area colleges and graduate programs to recruit interns and volunteers
• Represent The Salvation Army's social mission in the Bridging the Gap program
• Refer persons with spiritual needs to The Salvation Army Corps Officer
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

A college student, preferably a college graduate

Work Experience:

Must have some a minimum of 1 year experience working with young adults

Other

Qualifications:

Ability to work with disadvantaged youth is a definite plus

Must be knowledgeable about outside referral services

Must be at least 21 years of age
