Position: School Nurse (RN)

School Nurse (RN) - First Shift No Weekends About the Opportunity

Arbor Associates is partnering with a well-established, mission-driven nonprofit school in Springfield, MA to place a School Nurse for the upcoming school year. This school serves students ages 5–22 with social-emotional and behavioral challenges, learning disabilities, and high-functioning autism — operating under a trauma-informed, whole-child model with small class sizes and a low student-to-staff ratio. This is not a typical school nursing role.

You'll work as an embedded member of a multidisciplinary team, supporting students who have complex health and behavioral needs alongside teachers, behavior interventionists, clinicians, and administrators. If you're a nurse who finds deep meaning in working with vulnerable youth in a therapeutic educational environment, this role is built for you.

What You'll Do Clinical Care
  • Conduct required health screenings per Massachusetts state regulations
  • Administer medications and maintain proper storage, inventory, and dispensing per physician orders
  • Provide first aid, CPR, and urgent medical care as needed
  • Assess and monitor students following behavioral interventions, including post-restraint observation
  • Maintain accurate, compliant health records for all students
Team Collaboration
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Consult with the Director of Quality and other nursing staff
  • Communicate proactively with parents and guardians regarding student health
  • Notify administration when medical supplies need replenishment
Student Support
  • Assess students' social, emotional, and behavioral health using a trauma-informed lens
  • Apply therapeutic approaches that reduce maladaptive behaviors and promote prosocial skills
  • Educate students on health, hygiene, and safety practices
Professional Responsibilities
  • Obtain and maintain MCSR certification through MDPH for School Health delegation
  • Train designated staff on medication delegation and administration
  • Maintain compliance with Safety Care and behavior management protocols
  • Submit documentation, reports, and required paperwork on time Participate in performance evaluations, supervision, and professional development activities
Why This Role Stands Out
  • School-year schedule — no nights, no weekends, no holiday shifts
  • Mission-driven environment — serve students who genuinely need your care and expertise
  • Multidisciplinary team — you won't work in isolation; you're part of an integrated support team
  • Stable, long-tenured organization — this school is backed by a nonprofit with 160 years of service to children and families in western Massachusetts
