School Nurse (RN) - First Shift No Weekends About the Opportunity
Arbor Associates is partnering with a well-established, mission-driven nonprofit school in Springfield, MA to place a School Nurse for the upcoming school year. This school serves students ages 5–22 with social-emotional and behavioral challenges, learning disabilities, and high-functioning autism — operating under a trauma-informed, whole-child model with small class sizes and a low student-to-staff ratio. This is not a typical school nursing role.
You'll work as an embedded member of a multidisciplinary team, supporting students who have complex health and behavioral needs alongside teachers, behavior interventionists, clinicians, and administrators. - Conduct required health screenings per Massachusetts state regulations
- Administer medications and maintain proper storage, inventory, and dispensing per physician orders
- Provide first aid, CPR, and urgent medical care as needed
- Assess and monitor students following behavioral interventions, including post-restraint observation
- Maintain accurate, compliant health records for all students
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Consult with the Director of Quality and other nursing staff
- Communicate proactively with parents and guardians regarding student health
- Notify administration when medical supplies need replenishment
- Assess students' social, emotional, and behavioral health using a trauma-informed lens
- Apply therapeutic approaches that reduce maladaptive behaviors and promote prosocial skills
- Educate students on health, hygiene, and safety practices
- Obtain and maintain MCSR certification through MDPH for School Health delegation
- Train designated staff on medication delegation and administration
- Maintain compliance with Safety Care and behavior management protocols
- Submit documentation, reports, and required paperwork on time Participate in performance evaluations, supervision, and professional development activities
