Overview

Dakin Humane Society is a community-supported animal welfare organization that provides shelter, medical care, spay/neuter services, and behavioral rehabilitation for more than 20,000 animals and people each year. Since its inception in 1969, Dakin has become a recognized nonprofit leader in animal welfare in the Pioneer Valley.

Position

Now Hiring:
Spay & Neuter Clinic Veterinarian (Full-time or Part-time). The Community Spay & Neuter Clinic at Dakin Humane Society is the largest of its kind in New England, providing high-quality, accessible spay and neuter surgery for dogs and cats throughout Springfield and the surrounding communities. The clinic performs a high volume of surgeries in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform up to 30–40 high-quality spay and neuter surgeries per day for community-owned cats and dogs, feral cats, and shelter animals as needed.
  • Work with an outstanding support staff to deliver accessible veterinary care.
  • Contribute to the clinic’s mission of reducing pet overpopulation and improving animal welfare in the community.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to maintain high standards of patient care and safety.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Current Massachusetts veterinary license (or the ability to obtain one within three months), including Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Experience performing canine and feline spay and neuter surgeries is preferred; high-volume, pediatric surgery, and shelter medicine experience are a plus.
  • A commitment to providing exceptional surgical and medical care while treating every client with compassion and respect.
  • The ability to perform up to 30–40 high-quality spay and neuter surgeries per day in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for advancing animal welfare through accessible veterinary care.
  • Dakin is committed to supporting recent graduates and candidates with limited HQHVSN experience by providing training and mentorship to those who demonstrate a genuine interest in building a long-term career in this area of veterinary medicine.
