Kitchen Assistant

Position Purpose/Summary

Responsible for supporting the daily meal operations at the Raymond

A. Jordan Senior Center. This role assists with food preparation, kitchen and dining room cleanliness, meal service, and ensuring a safe, welcoming dining experience for senior participants. Work is performed under the supervision of the Elder Affairs Director. No supervision is exercised over other employees.

Essential Functions

* Help set up and serve meals to senior center participants in a friendly and respectful manner.

* Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.

* Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, dining areas, and food prep stations.

* Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department guidelines.

* Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries properly.

* Take out trash and recycling and maintain overall kitchen and dining room organization.

* Support special events and holiday meals as needed.

* Work cooperatively with kitchen staff, volunteers, and senior center team members.

* Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Basic understanding of food safety standards and cleanliness.

* Must be Serv Safe certified as required by Elder Affairs Director

* Ability to follow instructions and prepare ingredients as instructed.

* Must possess ability to work independently.

* Possess verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to function with minimal supervision.

* Must have strong organizational skills.

Education and Experience

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Minimum of two years of successful experience working with the general public, preferably with seniors.

* Relevant Serv Safe certification preferred.
