Job Responsibilities

Will be assigned to the Emergency Department and poll the treatment area, triage, and waiting room to support staff in the care of patients, looking for and addressing any aggressive or disruptive individuals, and collaborating with the triage nurse to take a lead role in responding to incidents.

Enforce the access‑control program: issue visitor badges, explain access denials, identify persons without identification, secure doors, conduct building rounds, and respond to door requests while completing reports.

Maintain working knowledge of dispatch‑center duties.

Respond to codes and emergencies immediately, operate fire equipment, assist in setting up the emergency operations center (EOC), and notify police when appropriate.

Assist in traffic control: keep fire lanes clear, direct visitors to parking and patient pick‑up areas, screen parking gates, and enforce parking rules.

Maintain knowledge of arrest procedures and police powers, detain or arrest individuals suspected of criminal activity on hospital premises, file accurate reports, and maintain certification through MPTC/POST.

Understand and apply use‑of‑force policies, employ crisis‑intervention techniques, and collaborate with other departments to resolve disruptive incidents.

Conduct preliminary investigations: collect incident‑scene data (personal and property information, times, circumstances), render a prompt report, investigate lost and found property cases, and trace patient progress through the facility.

Perform special assignments: control movements of high‑risk patients, provide temporary support to clinics and offices, conduct mobile patrols, provide emergency transport of persons and specimens, and secure special events.

Escort behavioral patients and those with criminal trauma as requested by the care team, and perform patient watches in the Emergency Department and on inpatient units when needed.

Demonstrate and model principles of service excellence in support of the patient and employee experience.

Manage the photo‑m: create and reprint s, encode and provide door access in Premisys.

Maintain professionalism when directing employees, staff, visitors, and patients to all hospital areas as required.

Minimum Required Experience

Customer‑service background and effective communication skills.

Preferred Required Experience

2‑4 years in security, law enforcement, or military police field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and sound reasoning and decision‑making abilities.
Associate or bachelor’s degree acceptable in lieu of security experience.

Licenses

Valid driver’s license (subject to HR fleet policy).
License to carry.

Certifications

Valid POST certification required.
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required.

Education

High school diploma (required).

Compensation

Hourly rate range: $19.29 – $24.57 – $31.91. Starting salaries typically fall in the lower portion of the range. Actual salaries vary and may be based on relevant experience. No employee is paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges for non‑exempt employees are listed hourly.
