Role Description

The Utilities Locator is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Springfield, MA, responsible for accurately locating and marking underground utilities to support safe excavation and construction activities. This role involves reviewing work orders and maps, using locating equipment to identify utility lines, and documenting completed work in digital systems. The Utilities Locator will communicate regularly with field crews, supervisors, and customers to clarify project requirements and safety considerations.

Daily tasks include working outdoors in varying weather conditions, following safety protocols, and adhering to company and regulatory standards. The role may also require driving to multiple job sites, maintaining equipment, and participating in ongoing training related to utility locating and industry practices.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of utilities and the utility industry, including basic understanding of underground infrastructure and safe work practices.
  • Experience or familiarity with excavation activities, including working around heavy equipment and following dig‑safe procedures.
  • Computer literacy for reading digital maps, completing electronic work orders, and using mobile devices or locator software.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with field teams, supervisors, and customers, and for clearly documenting findings.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between job sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, walk, stand, and lift moderate weights as required by field conditions.
  • Attention to detail, strong situational awareness, and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Prior experience in utility locating, construction, telecommunications, or related fields is preferred but not required; relevant training or certifications are a plus.
