Field/Service Technician
Position Overview
Eversource will not offer immigration-related sponsorship for this position. Initial basic school training will be based out of Berlin, CT for approximately five weeks. Successful completion of this training is required to advance to the field training portion of the program. The Line Helper is an entry-level position where an individual will learn to perform work involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the overhead electric system, and to progress through the established Line Helper steps.
Responsibilities- Attend and successfully complete the five-week basic school training program.
- Pass the written and hands‑on pole climbing assessment and a timed pole top rescue.
- Perform work assignments at the apprentice line worker level, including distribution and/or transmission work.
- Work emergency and overtime when the need exists.
- Demonstrate safe working practices and possess the mechanical ability to use hand and power tools for line construction and maintenance.
- Climb and work on poles, ladders, and other elevated structures.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Additional electrical technical training is preferred.
- Pass the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST), an agility assessment, and a knowledge‑based exam. An interview will also be held.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, emergency responses, and on‑call assignments.
- Must live within 30 minutes of the reporting location.
- Two (2) years of electrical, physical work, or related mechanical experience. Graduates of a line school training program or an Eversource Lineworker program may be considered with less experience.
- Prior pole and climbing experience is preferred.
- Work history that demonstrates safe work habits.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Preferred to hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL); must be able to obtain a CDL within six months of hire.
- Heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons for extended periods.
- Stand a minimum of five to six hours on the ground, sit for two to three hours in various positions, and move frequently to unload equipment.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds and climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights.
- Operate small hand tools with manual dexterity and differentiate colors (color vision required).

Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, the Line Helper may be assigned to emergency restoration duties outside of normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
