Domestic Violence Counselor - YPP
The YWCA of Western MA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering survivors. The YWCA provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Our programs and services include a crisis shelter and transitional housing for survivors and their families, counseling, SAFEPLAN court advocacy, community education, and supervised visitation.
The YWCA provides services at several sites, including Holyoke, Northampton, Westfield, and our primary Springfield campus.
Position PurposeThe Direct Care Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Program Director in oversight of the Young Parenting Program, serving teen mothers and their children ages 13–20. The Direct Care Supervisor supports the Direct Service Advocate team, consisting of approximately 15–20 staff, to ensure implementation of the Caring Together Model as well as full compliance with DCF standards and EEC licensing.
Responsibilities- Assist the Program Director with the daily management of the Young Parenting Program.
- Complete staff supervisions for all 2nd Shift staff.
- Nurture and support a milieu approach that is youth‑guided, family‑driven, strength‑based, and trauma‑informed.
- Regularly complete the Young Parent Living Program assessments for new teens that enter the program.
- Attend monthly agency leadership meetings.
- Embrace and model a positive youth development framework.
- Work effectively with residents’ family members, peer advocates, organizational partners, and other stakeholders central to resident care.
- Develop and deliver weekly programming and associated schedules on topics such as life skills, parenting, and health and wellness.
- Conduct and/or participate in a variety of weekly or regular meetings with residents, such as house meetings and case reviews, and staff.
- Provide crisis counseling as needed.
- Share responsibility for 24‑hour, on‑call management.
- Contribute to all aspects of employee recruitment and retention, including interviewing, onboarding, supervision/coaching, professional development, and evaluation.
- Provide, facilitate, and ensure training for new employees during the introductory period, in support of program policy and procedures.
- Ensure staff members’ understanding of and full compliance with program policies and procedures, including mandated reporting, emergency procedures, transportation guidelines, and medication storage.
- Partner with the Program Director and Human Resources to identify, address, and resolve concerns regarding employee performance and conduct.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in a Human Service field plus 4 years of experience working with youth and their families.
- Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects.
- Experience working in a residential setting preferred.
- Experience working with adolescents and/or young parents and children.
- Experience with survivors of gender‑based violence and exploitation.
- Experience addressing the impacts of decisions and actions on multiple communities.
- Understanding of both interpersonal and structural racism and bias.
- Must possess positive energy, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Maintain a high standard of meeting deadlines and achieving outcomes as defined by the program.
- Ability to represent the agency from a management perspective in an active union environment.
- Excellent written and organizational skills including computer skills.
- Must have knowledge of and contacts with community agencies.
- Reliable transportation, a safe driving record, and a valid driver’s license are required.
- Must be able to be covered by the agency’s insurance policy.
