Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Permanent Full Time Diesel Truck Lot Porter located in Springfield, Massachusetts. The role involves maintaining and exercising trucks/tractors, ensuring equipment readiness, and supporting yard organization.

Compensation & Schedule
  • Hourly Pay: $28.00 per hour
  • Schedule:

    Monday – Friday
  • Hours:

    First Shift 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (1st shift)
  • CDL A or B is required.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year or more mechanical and/or customer service experience required
  • Knowledge of truck and trailer equipment, advanced required
  • Valid Driver’s License, meet Ryder’s driving qualifications; CDL preferred or ability to obtain CDL
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment for unit acceptance, exercising, lot management, and customer pick‑ups
  • Customer focus and support orientation
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Organized and capable of multitasking
  • Basic computer skills – tablet for checking/inspecting units via e‑mail
Screening & Background Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Pass a Ryder Drug Test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder Background and Motor Vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Important Note

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Exercise trucks/tractors to ensure equipment is roadworthy and ready for sale
  • Guarantee that customer units are ready for delivery or transport from the UTC without issues
  • Transport equipment around the yard ensuring the yard is orderly, organized, and presentable
  • Perform light mechanical work such as jump starts, battery installation, fluid management while troubleshooting mechanical issues
  • Coordinate and communicate with local Ryder shops or third‑party service providers for repairs
  • Ensure equipment is clean and presentable
  • Submit weekly equipment exercise data via Teams
Additional Responsibilities
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned
