Position Title: Part‑time Office Support Assistant
Work Location: Springfield Campus
Pay Grade: Unclassified
Proposed Salary: $15.00/hr
Sponsorship Information: Applicants must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the United States on a full‑time basis. This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
General FunctionThe Office Support Assistant serves as a part‑time Assistant School Certifying Official and provides administrative and operational support to the Veteran Student Center. This position assists with the certification process of GI Bill® education benefits, provides general information and customer service to students and stakeholders, and supports the preparation and processing of required forms and documentation.
Description of Primary Duties- Assists Assistant Director with GI BILL® certification process through the appropriate systems.
- Verifies student benefit eligibility for applicable benefits, ensuring the university maintains compliance with all related federal, state, and/or University policies.
- Receives and routes telephone calls and email correspondence.
- Maintains office equipment and supply inventories.
- Creates and edits documents with technical or specialized terminology.
- Receives general supervision from a designated supervisor, carries out assigned responsibilities independently within established guidelines.
- Performs assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines contributing to the overall success of the Office for Veteran Student Services.
Knowledge of and the ability to use computerized management information systems (databases) are required. Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required. The ability to work with a minimum of supervision is required. The ability to learn and follow complex procedures and detailed policies is required. Effective decision‑making skills are required. Keyboarding and data entry skills are required. Experience working with military‑connected students, knowledge of policy/procedure for certifying the GI BILL® with the VA, and experience with Tuition Assistance is preferred.
