Leads and coordinates activities to support commodity management and supplier relations. Negotiates contracts and supports material availability for plant operations meeting metrics to achieve financial and customer satisfaction.
- Establishes and runs projects related to sourcing needs as directed from upper management.
- Establishes procedures to accomplish sourcing a variety of materials in a cost-effective manner.
- Prepares and assigns tasks to team members, working collaboratively with all departments.
- Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.
- Keeps informed of economic, industrial, and other trends that affect markets, prices, and delivery conditions.
- Recommends major purchases of materials based on anticipated changes in prices or on unusual availability situations.
- Participates and leads in contract negotiations and vendor selection.
- Monitors performance and capabilities of vendors to ensure maintenance of delivery, quality, and price commitments.
- Arranges for disposal of surplus materials.
- Manages and evaluates supplier performance.
- Acts as a liaison in dealings between vendors and user departments when necessary.
- May perform duties of Buyer in new supplier start up phases.
- Responsible for Inventory Turns and cost savings projects.
Minimum five years’ experience in a commodity management or senior buyer role with a proven track record certifying new suppliers meeting Quality and Delivery needs domestically and internationally.
Skills + KnowledgeProficient with MRP/ERP systems, Excel and other Microsoft Office Products. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Good verbal and written communication skills necessary. Must be dependable, accurate, detail oriented and possess the ability to work well in a team environment. General knowledge of NAFTA and related international shipping requirements (e.g. customs, etc.)
Physical Activities + DemandsNormal office environment which requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. May involve the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects of up to 15 to 20 pounds, infrequently. Willingness to travel as needed maintaining supplier relationships to include international destinations as needed.
