We believe that safety is of the utmost importance in the daily operations of all personnel - including subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors. Safety plays a major role in successful completion of our activities. With this commitment in mind, we strive to assure that no person will work in surroundings or under conditions that are unsafe or dangerous to their health. We pursue an active, comprehensive accident prevention policy in all our operations. Collaborating with our General Contractor partners to achieve the goal of Zero Incident worksites is a high priority.
As a team, we recognize that construction is an inherently hazardous industry. Therefore, we work every day and, in every situation, to bring Safety awareness and action to our work and our lives.
The Safety Engineer’s role is to work with the Team Safety to help us minimize the risk of job‑related accidents, monitor operations to eliminate hazardous activities and develop policies to promote occupational health and safety awareness.
Job Specifics- Responsible to see that every leader and every individual employed by Hermanson asks themselves and their teams, daily: "Who did I inspire or motivate today to have a "Safety Attitude for Life"?
- First on call to investigate all accidents, incidents and "near misses" and manages the accident investigation process.
- Investigate accidents and injuries to determine their causes and to determine whether the incidents were avoidable or can be prevented in the future.
- Interview customers, managers, and employees to learn about work environments and incidents that lead to accidents or injuries.
- Evaluate the corrections that were made to remedy the incident.
- Work with the customer to resolve any safety matters that arise.
- Manage open injury claims, oversee our back‑to‑work program for light duty and "kept on salary" employees. Coordinate efforts with assistance from the Safety Manager and Approach retro group manager.
- Assist Foremen and provide monthly feedback to Hermanson management on activities and results related to accidents, their root causes, costs and how not to repeat them.
- Tour jobsites and shops on a regular basis with Foremen, Superintendents and Project Managers and assist Field and Shop Foremen in identifying jobsite hazards and conditions, any unsafe employee work habits, and intervene in unsafe activities or operations.
- Conduct new hire orientation, site‑specific safety training for new Hermanson Employees and organize and conduct training for the crews (fork‑lift, aerial lift, fall protection, trenching excavation, fall protection, confined space, etc.).
- Responsible for putting together site‑specific safety manuals, site fall protection work plans, job hazard analysis.
- Assist Safety Manager in maintaining and updating the company’s accident prevention program by:
- Developing procedures and design systems to protect people from illness and injury and property from damage.
- Conducting weekly job‑site audits on assigned projects, identifying and correcting potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, documenting safety visits, and administering drug tests as needed.
- Reviewing plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to ensure they meet safety requirements.
- Reviewing employee safety programs and recommending improvements.
- Ensuring Foremen are complying with DOSH safety and health regulations, completing Pre‑Task Planning, and following Hermanson Company Accident Prevention Program.
- Attend monthly safety committee meetings and make sure job sites are conducting weekly safety meetings.
