CDM Smith's CEI team in Columbia, Missouri is seeking an inspector to inspect and monitor construction activities at the I-70 Corridor project site. The inspector must be able to perform complex inspection activities for at least two of the five construction inspection categories: roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion & control, and maintenance & traffic.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform both complex and routine inspections to evaluate if materials and processes are used appropriately and conform to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
- Use higher grade equipment and perform complex calculations for construction inspection.
- Work under limited or direct supervision based on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment.
- Review drawings to prepare for the construction inspection.
- Understand the design of the construction to be inspected, document and communicate the results of the inspection, and report to the supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 6 years of related experience; equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete, if required by the client or jurisdiction.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.

Skills and Abilities- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain construction plans, drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications and programs.
