position overview

busy general contracting firm seeks full time construction superintendent for work in southwest missouri (primarily springfield and surrounding communities). Proven work record as a construction superintendent (10 yrs preffered—5yrs required). Competitive pay and benefits.

reports to: director of operations.

the purpose of the superintendent is to ensure the successful completion of specific construction projects. This role is responsible for all activities on the construction site to ensure quality, budget, scheduling, and safety goals are met. The superintendent’s main responsibility is overseeing subcontractors and crew members to ensure they achieve tasks given to them. The superintendent will spend most of their day coordinating subcontractors and crew members, making sure that work is being completed as per plans and specifications with high quality, providing guidance and meeting deadlines, documenting daily activities and planning for upcoming tasks.

roles and responsibilities
  • oversees carpenters and laborers by providing coaching, training, opportunities to collaborate, setting clear expectations, evaluating performance, and conducting a regular 1:1 quarterly check‑in.
  • works closely with the project manager to carry out the vision/scope for each construction project. Weekly superintendent and project manager meetings should take place on each job site.
  • coordinates pre‑construction set up with the project manager: posts signs/permits, locates utilities, stakes boundaries, checks elevations, photographs pre‑existing conditions, arranges for dumpster, portable toilet, temporary utilities, etc.
  • reviews plans, specifications, and schedule ahead of project launch, and clearly communicates the plan to the construction crew before and throughout the project.
  • manages the day‑to‑day work on the jobsite ensuring everything proceeds in orderly fashion and anticipates what is ahead.
  • documents daily activities and conditions on the job site and assumes responsibility for the condition of the jobsite.
  • communicates weekly with the director of operations to provide accurate information about manpower needs, critical to help finalize schedules and complete them in advance for the field team.
  • communicates updates, adjustments, and materials needed with the project manager and director of operations.
  • provides feedback and support to carpenters, laborers, and subcontractors to ensure quality control, safety, and problem solving.
  • coordinates subcontracted resources to avoid delays.
  • coordinates and attends inspections.
  • assists project manager in handoff of completed project.
  • understands different trades, processes, and equipment used throughout the job.
  • watches labor and material expenses and closely adheres to project budget.
  • oversees work of crew members performing aspects of demolition, framing, hardware, general carpentry, and various equipment operation as needed on a per project basis.
  • promotes a safe working environment by implementing, maintaining, and overseeing osha safety regulations.
  • attends site meetings with owner, architect, engineers, inspectors, etc.
  • leads onsite construction huddles regularly to coordinate daily work priorities.
  • is responsible for maintaining any equipment, tools, machines owned by the company.
