- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering projects, including road construction, bridges, and other infrastructure developments.
- Analyze project plans and specifications to determine the necessary materials, labor, and equipment needed for successful project completion.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop accurate budgets and timelines for each project.
- Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather information for accurate estimating.
- Review and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that all costs are accounted for and competitive.
- Maintain and update a database of historical costs and pricing to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.
- Assist in the preparation of bid proposals and presentations for potential clients, showcasing the company's capabilities and expertise.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction phase, providing regular updates and forecasts to project stakeholders.
- Identify potential risks and challenges in the estimating process, proposing solutions to mitigate these issues.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and competitiveness in the marketplace.
- Participate in project meetings and provide input on cost-related decisions and strategies.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating for civil or DOT projects.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, Plan Swift, or similar applications.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to civil construction projects.
- Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Microsoft Project.
- Knowledge of LEED certification processes and sustainable construction practices.
- Previous experience working with government contracts and understanding of procurement processes.
- Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
- Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
