About the role Kciconstruction is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Civil/DOT Estimator to join our team in Springfield, Missouri. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to various civil and Department of Transportation projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in estimating and project management, ensuring that our projects are completed on time and within budget. You will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of projects, collaborating with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to deliver high-quality results.

What you'll do
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering projects, including road construction, bridges, and other infrastructure developments.
  • Analyze project plans and specifications to determine the necessary materials, labor, and equipment needed for successful project completion.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop accurate budgets and timelines for each project.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather information for accurate estimating.
  • Review and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that all costs are accounted for and competitive.
  • Maintain and update a database of historical costs and pricing to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of bid proposals and presentations for potential clients, showcasing the company's capabilities and expertise.
  • Monitor project costs throughout the construction phase, providing regular updates and forecasts to project stakeholders.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges in the estimating process, proposing solutions to mitigate these issues.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide input on cost-related decisions and strategies.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating for civil or DOT projects.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, Plan Swift, or similar applications.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to civil construction projects.
Nice to have
  • Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of LEED certification processes and sustainable construction practices.
  • Previous experience working with government contracts and understanding of procurement processes.
  • Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
