Position: METEOROLOGIST (W/NIGHT) - KYTV/KSPR

Job Summary

KY3, the dominant First Alert weather-driven station in Springfield, MO, is looking for a weeknight meteorologist. This person will create engaging, informative, and compelling weather stories for on-air and digital (streaming, social, and web) platforms and help the rest of the weather team achieve the same. The best candidate will also help with weather community outreach. KY3 has one of the top weather apps in the nation, and this person will be required to lead the way with updates, videos, and inventive ideas.

The right candidate will also help develop a weather streaming strategy for severe weather and daily shows.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze weather data
  • Prepare detailed and accurate on-air and digital forecasts
  • Work closely with newsroom management on weather coverage plans
  • Create and post digital content several times per shift
  • Host daily weather streaming and be aggressive with severe weather streaming
  • Stay up to speed with weather technology
  • Maintain a very flexible schedule during all severe weather
Qualifications
  • 2+ years as a broadcast meteorologist
  • Degree in meteorology or a similar field
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork
  • Ability to make decisions about First Alert Weather days
  • Ability to develop and maintain graphic design and presentation
  • Demonstrated ability to forecast weather accurately and consistently
  • Proficient in digital (streaming and web) and social media platforms
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record
  • Severe weather experience, especially storms/tornadoes, is a must
  • Experience as a public speaker in front of large crowds is a plus
  • Experience with WSI equipment and radar is a plus
