Manufacturing Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY
The CNC Programmer Machinist will work with new product development designers, engineers, and project/product managers to create molds and tooling patterns from 3D CAD models.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Utilize CATIA/3DExperience to design molds and tooling patterns for fiberglass boat components from released engineering CAD data.
- Program toolpaths for Thermwood LSAM printers and 3-axis/5-axis routers using Master Cam.
- Operate Thermwood LSAM printers and 3-axis/5-axis routers.
- Design and build support/holding fixtures for mold and pattern machining as needed.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Designers, and Tooling Technicians to ensure patterns meet production requirements.
- Assist Project Managers and Designers with special projects.
- Design and document required materials, parts, and assembly instructions for tooling pattern construction.
- Estimate material needs, labor time, and project completion schedules.
- Perform material handling functions related to the LSAM process, including fabricating bead board print substrates.
- Maintain all tooling and ensure CNC machines are clean, properly maintained, and operational.
- Diagnose and repair CNC machine issues to maintain production schedules.
- Follow all company quality and safety practices.
- Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized.
- Operate forklifts and gantry systems to transport materials and work pieces throughout the shop.
- ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
Minimum Degree
Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred Degree:
Associate Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Design/Drafting, CNC Programming, or other Mechanical or Technology Field.
Years of experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in CNC Programming/Machining in lieu of degree
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITYAbility to construct tooling patterns from tooling foam and construction lumber (plywood and framing lumber)
Familiarity with 3-D printing processes
Familiarity with Large Scale Additive Manufacturing processes is a plus
Knowledge of closed mold fiberglass manufacturing methods
Familiarity with G&M Codes and Mastercam Computer literate, familiar with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office
Experience with 3D CAD programs (CATIA, 3DExperience, Solid Works, Inventor, etc.), preferred
Ability to work in a team and maintain a positive attitude
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTSSome travel is required to Manufacturing locations as needed for projects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSRegularly walks, sits, stands and does computer work. Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENTPerforms duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments.
