Job Title: Assistant Coach, Wrestling

Purpose Statement: The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Coach.
The Springfield School District is Missouri’s largest public school district and has built a reputation of academic excellence based on the outstanding performance of our students and schools. About 25,000 students attend 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools and a variety of alternative education and choice programs.
The job of Assistant Coach is to assist in designing and implementing the athletic program for wrestling, according to applicable rules and regulations; supervise coaching personnel; supervise students during all aspects of the program; use sound instructional techniques; serve as a positive role model; and act as a liaison for the school and program with other schools, the community, and organizations.
EssentialFunctions
- Analyzes opponents’ strategies for games/events prior to and/or during athletic events to assess strengths and weaknesses and develop game plans.
- Assesses student athletes to provide feedback on performance or determine team needs.
- Attends meetings, workshops, conferences to receive and convey information related to the role.
- Assists with supporting activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets to provide information about the program and recognize participants’ achievements.
- Develops team and individual practice regimes (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention) to enhance performance.
- Develops game strategies/plans for preparing the team and individual athletes.
- Evaluates facility and playing field for hazards to recommend modifications that reduce risk of injury.
- Identifies program needs and recommends expenditures for activities and equipment to improve the assigned program.
- Identifies appropriate uses of program funding to address needs in compliance with state and district policies.
- Implements practice schedules and related events to ensure efficient program operation.
- Instructs student athletes to promote growth in athletic skills and teamwork.
- Maintains records (statistics, insurance, permission forms, emergency information, schedules, inventories) to comply with requirements and report scores.
- Monitors academic eligibility to comply with AIA requirements and provide intervention for athletes needing assistance.
- Oversees student managers and volunteers, providing direction and monitoring activities.
- Serves as liaison at functions such as AIA meetings and tournaments to represent the district.
- Supervises athletes during competition, travel, meetings, and practices to maintain a safe environment.
- Supports students during college recruiting to assist them in achieving their goals.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned by the head coach to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.
