Position Overview
The Student Minister at JABC provides Christ-centered leadership, oversight, and spiritual direction for the Student Ministry of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church (grades 6–12). This role disciples students and helps shape a biblical worldview through faithful teaching of Scripture and intentional engagement with the challenges facing today’s generation. The Student Minister supports the overall mission and vision of the church by cultivating a safe, welcoming, and gospel-centered ministry environment for students and their families.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Teaching & Discipleship
- Lead weekly Wednesday student gatherings and oversee Sunday Bible study
- Develop and implement a clear, gospel-centered discipleship strategy
- Oversee all teaching in the student ministry, ensuring it aligns with JABC teaching and doctrine
- Invest relationally in students and guide them in spiritual growth
- Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, and shepherd a team of adult volunteers
- Provide ongoing leadership development and annual training
- Foster a unified, healthy volunteer culture
- Pastoral Care
- Provide spiritual guidance and counsel to students and families
- Serve as a key contact for students exploring salvation and baptism
- Offer support during times of crisis and need
- Ministry Leadership & Administration
- Oversee student ministry operations, budget, and calendar
- Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and volunteers
- Develop and enforce ministry policies and procedures
- Events & Outreach
- Plan camps, retreats, mission trips, and discipleship events
- Lead outreach efforts and community engagement opportunities
- Participate in churchwide ministries and events
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing walk with Him
- Alignment with the Southern Baptist doctrine as expressed in The Baptist Faith & Message 2000
- Meets biblical qualifications for leadership (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1; I Peter
5) - Strong ability to teach Scripture in an engaging and faithful way
- Proven leadership, organizational, and relational skills
- Experience in Student Ministry, college ministry or children’s ministry
- College degree in a ministry related field and/or seminary training is preferred
- Full-time (40+ hours/week, including evenings and weekends)
- Regular presence required on Sundays and Wednesdays
- Office hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00pm-5:00pm
