General Function
The Director of Student Learning Services provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous assessment of comprehensive academic support and retention initiatives that advance the University’s student success goals. The Director designs and oversees institution‑wide tutoring, writing, and supplemental instruction programs; establishes policies and operational frameworks; and ensures alignment with the University’s strategic plan and retention objectives.
The Director leads cross‑campus collaboration with faculty, academic departments, deans, and student success partners to identify emerging academic support needs, develop data‑informed interventions, and evaluate program effectiveness. The Director exercises primary responsibility for program direction, resource allocation, staff supervision, and the integration of assessment findings into long‑range planning to strengthen student persistence and achievement.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Education:
A Master’s degree is required. - Experience:
Five years of successful experience working with student success initiatives or teaching writing or study skills at the college level are required. Experience in the development of student tutoring programs or a writing center is preferred. - Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Proven leadership and managerial skills are required. The ability to expand writing skills assistance through online methods is preferred.
