Job DescriptionThis position is primarily responsible for supporting the instructional process by serving as a teacher. The teacher ensures students’ success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with teachers, staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues, and responding to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.
- Instructs students to improve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Manages student behavior to maintain safety and optimize learning.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians on student progress, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Administers developmental testing programs and subject‑specific assessments to evaluate competency levels and develop individualized learning plans.
- Provides counseling on performance, health, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrates instructional methods to meet classroom and subject‑specific assignments.
- Directs student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to support effective classroom programs.
- Facilitates student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
- Maintains manual and electronic files and records in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Participates in meetings and workshops to share and gather information necessary for performance.
- Prepares materials documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Reports health and safety issues to appropriate administrators and agencies.
- Responds to emergency situations and directs to appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Responds to inquiries from various sources, providing information or direction.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
- Possession of Missouri Teaching K‑12 Art Certification.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance satisfactory to the District.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic math and ability to read technical information, compose documents, facilitate discussions, and analyze situations.
- Understanding of appropriate codes, policies, regulations, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavior management strategies.
- Skill to perform multiple technical tasks and continually upgrade skills to meet changing conditions.
- Skill in applying assessment instruments, operating office equipment and software, and preparing accurate records.
- Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, and use job‑related equipment.
- Ability to work with others under various circumstances and utilize diverse data.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Ability to apply critical thinking and problem solving to improve work processes.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, set priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities.

Physical Requirements
- Work environment is primarily indoors with moderate noise and temperature levels.
- Light physical work up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
- Requires physical abilities such as perception of sounds, rational decision making, spoken communication, hand and wrist movements, visual acuity, and the ability to perform repetitive motions and reach tasks.
- Additional physical abilities include balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $45,917 to $83,650 Per Year
