General PurposeThis position is responsible for providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for ensuring secondary age students’ success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living. Supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues;
and responding to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians.
- Instruct students to improve academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Monitor students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Manage student behavior to maintain an optimal learning atmosphere.
- Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
- Advise parents and legal guardians about student progress, expectations, and strategies for improvement.
- Administer developmental testing programs and subject assessments to evaluate competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Counsel students on improving performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrate methods to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments effectively.
- Direct student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to support classroom program and student needs.
- Facilitate student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
- Maintain manual and electronic documents, files, and records per administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Participate in meetings and workshops to convey or gather necessary information.
- Prepare materials documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Report health and safety issues to administrators and appropriate agencies, ensuring student safety and regulatory compliance.
- Respond to emergency situations, addressing immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to inquiries from various sources, providing information and direction.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
Certificates, Licenses, and Special Requirements:
- Possession of Math 5–9 Missouri Teacher Certification.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance satisfactory to the District.
- Knowledge of basic math: fractions, percentages, ratios; ability to read technical information, compose documents, facilitate discussions, and analyze situations.
- Knowledge of codes, policies, regulations, laws, child development stages, lesson plan requirements, and behavior management strategies.
- Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
- Ability to apply assessment instruments, use office equipment, relevant software applications, and maintain accurate records.
- Skill to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; and use job-related equipment.
- Ability to work with others under varied circumstances and employ defined processes and equipment.
