General Purpose

This position is multifaceted with the overarching goal of improving the educational experience of English learners. The ELD Specialist supports and implements the district ELD program to enhance academic achievement and advancement of English learners, and models and collaborates with classroom teachers and staff for effective language‑rich instruction.

Essential Job Functions
  • Orchestrates the learning environment for English learner students.
  • Prepares and supports learning environments in small groups, co‑teaching, and strategy implementation.
  • Participates in department and PLC meetings.
  • Adheres to WIDA ACCESS testing security and administration assessments.
  • Advises parents or legal guardians on student progress and strategies for improvement.
  • Analyzes student assessment data to enhance achievement.
  • Assesses progress toward objectives, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes.
  • Counsels students on performance, health, problem‑solving, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates methods for classroom and subject‑specific assignments.
  • Differentiates instruction to support individualized learning plans.
  • Facilitates learning with technology, field trips, and age‑appropriate activities.
  • Maintains confidential and non‑confidential records per guidelines.
  • Models English communication and effective language usage.
  • Participates in meetings conveying necessary information.
  • Reports health and safety issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, accredited.
  • Job‑related experience with increasing responsibility.
Certificates, Licenses, and Other Requirements
  • Missouri ESOL Teaching Certification.
  • Ability to gain and maintain “Highly Qualified” status as defined by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Pass a satisfactory Criminal Background Clearance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading technical information, composing documents, facilitating discussions, and analyzing situations.
  • Knowledge of educational codes, policies, regulations, lesson planning, child development stages, and behavior management strategies.
  • Skill in performing multiple technical tasks and upgrading skills as conditions change.
  • Competency in applying assessment instruments, operating office equipment, and maintaining records.
  • Ability to schedule, gather, collate, classify data and use job‑related equipment.
  • Capability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Critical‑thinking and problem‑solving to improve processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to change.
  • Set high expectations, monitor progress, and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Teamwork, adaptability, logical processes, and analytical skills.
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements
  • Primarily indoor environment with moderate noise and temperature.
  • Sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • Physical ability to perceive sounds, make decisions, communicate verbally, use fine motor skills, and sight distance.
  • Requires balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Salary

$45,917 to $83,650 per year.
