Job Summary

The Student Services Specialist supports student success in Midwest Technical Institute’s/Delta Technical College’s programs by providing proactive outreach, engagement opportunities, and academic and other support resources. Responsibilities include assisting with new student orientation, engagement programming, community building, resource referral, and tracking student outcomes and satisfaction. The Student Success Specialist may assist with Career Placement activities as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Educational Duties:
  • Actively participate with the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation.
  • Provide training on use of the Learning Management System, online library resources, and student portal.
  • Ensure students understand technical requirements, academic integrity, and attendance expectations.
  • Maintain an up to date binder with each programs LRC project that is required for Accreditation.
  • Complete two e-course per year through the American Library Association
Student Support and Engagement:
  • Continue to enhance the Ambassador program and provide leadership training to our student ambassadors.
  • Organize student support groups based on the needs of the current student population to provide them with the opportunity to network with students in other classes and programs.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate internal and external resources (academic advising, tutoring, counseling, financial, housing, childcare, wellness).
  • Maintain updated lists of community resources available to students.
  • Maintain a listing of part-time jobs and posting copies around campus for students who are in need of a job.
  • Compile and maintain a list of local shelters as well as drug and alcohol abuse services in the community.
Academic and Career Services Support:
  • Assist students with career-readiness support, including resume reviews, cover letter guidance, and mock interviews.
  • Compile an updated list of local job leads every week and send that information along to appropriate placement coordinators, pending graduates and/or graduates.
Campus Support:
  • Coordinate student recognition and engagement campaigns through newsletters, social media, and LMS announcements.
  • Organizes all monthly lunch and learn sessions that provide students with additional resources in the following areas; study skills, test taking strategies, time management, budgeting, interviewing skills, soft-skills and many other varied topics specific to the needs of the current students. Minimum attendance of 25% of student population
  • Provide student ’s to all incoming students within the first two weeks of class.
  • Organizes campus activities such as blood drives, cook outs, lunch and learns, etc.
  • Responsible for organizing and recruiting fund raising, charity, and community events
  • Conduct quarterly surveys to monitor student satisfaction.
  • Attends weekly At-risk meetings, takes notes and enter into Campus Vue
  • Covers the absences of the front desk personnel including breaks
  • Plan and participate with the by-annual Program Advisory Committee meetings
  • Acts as the liaison for the Penn Foster program
General Support
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic affairs, and IT staff to address student needs.
  • Support Program Advisory Committee meetings and other compliance-related activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
