Position Summary
The L3 Lead Installer oversees the end-to-end physical deployment of DC power infrastructure. You will manage installation crews, interpret complex engineering specifications, and perform the final high-risk integration of power plants into the Telecom Central Offices/Data center's live grid. You are responsible for ensuring that every lug is torqued, every cable is laced, and every alarm is validated against Telcordia GR-1275 and NFPA 70E standards.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Oversight
- Crew Management:
Lead a team of L1 and L2 technicians, assigning tasks and performing real-time QA on their work. - MOP Authorship:
Create and walk through detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for high-risk activities, such as adding a new rectifier shelf to a live plant or performing a battery string cutover. - Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and redline engineered drawings, ensuring that the physical install accounts for real-world obstructions like HVAC ducting or existing fiber trays. - Live Power Integration:
Perform hot-taps and hot-swaps on active DC bus bars. - Precision Grounding:
Oversee the installation of the Master Ground Bar (MGB) and ensure all rack-level grounding meets the specific low-resistance requirements of sensitive IT equipment. - Complex Lacing:
Execute and teach advanced cable sewing/lacing techniques (Stitches include: Kansas City Stitch, Chicago Stitch) for massive cable bundles. - Load Bank Testing:
Set up and execute load bank testing to stress-test the new DC plant before it accepts live IT loads. - Controller Programming:
Perform deep-level programming of plant controllers (e.g., Vertiv Net Sure, Eltek Smartpack), including custom alarm thresholds and SNMP trap destinations. - Battery Validation:
Lead the Acceptance Testing for new battery plants, including discharge testing and conductance measurements.
- Strict Attention to Detail:
Ensuring all labels are P-touch printed and thermally protected. - Physical Stamina:
Ability to manage the logistics of moving several thousand pounds of lead-acid or lithium batteries safely. - Rigorous Documentation:
Delivering a Close-Out Package (COP) that includes torque logs, test results, and as-built photos.
- Standards - Mastery of Telcordia GR-1275, TP-76300, and NEC Article 645. (Expert)
- Cabling - Proficiency with 750
MCM cabling, hydraulic crimping, and thermal imaging. (Expert) - Safety - Authorized to issue Hot Work permits and manage Arc Flash boundaries. (Lead)
- Software - Experience with DCIM tools, terminal emulators (Putty/Tera Term), and Battery Management Systems (Client). (Advanced)
- OEM Expert Certification: (e.g., Schneider Electric, Client, or Vertiv certified installer).
- OSHA 30:
Construction safety focus. - CPR certification
- NFPA 70E:
Certified for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
