Operations Engineer / Utility Operations Specialist Position Summary
You will lead initiatives that enhance retail utility operations, streamline internal processes, and ensure efficient, customer-focused delivery of essential services. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to strengthen system performance, implement operational improvements, and support high-quality service for the community. Occasional travel is required.
Key Responsibilities- Lead operational improvement projects across electric distribution, water treatment and distribution systems, and sanitary sewer treatment and collection systems
- Analyze operational and performance data to improve system reliability, efficiency, safety, and customer experience
- Coordinate and support implementation of technology upgrades, including Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), outage management systems, and customer service platforms
- Develop and document workflows, standard operating procedures, and process improvements for retail utility operations
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain operational standards across electric, water, and wastewater systems
- Collaborate with engineering, finance, field operations, and customer service teams to design and implement effective solutions
- Provide technical expertise for capital projects, system enhancements, and equipment upgrades
- Assist with vendor coordination, procurement processes, and project delivery
- Provide field support for system evaluations, inspections, and project deployment as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility operations, engineering, or process improvement
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or related modeling/analysis software
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Missouri or ability to obtain through reciprocity
- Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems, or Agricultural Engineering
- Experience in electric, water, or wastewater utility operations
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and/or relevant project management or operational certifications
- Knowledge of AMI systems, utility distribution technologies, and customer information systems
- Familiarity with EPA/DNR regulations and utility compliance standards
