Are you passionate about creating safer workplaces and making a real difference every day? The City of Springfield is looking for a Department Safety Coordinator to join our team and support both the Environmental Services and Public Works departments. In this role, you'll lead safety initiatives that protect our employees and the public, help shape policies, and support a strong safety culture.

You'll work closely with a dedicated team across departments, conduct workplace safety reviews, deliver impactful training, and provide hands‑on guidance to supervisors and staff.

Environmental Services and Public Works staff operate daily in the field, delivering essential services such as clean water, solid waste, street maintenance, and stormwater management. As Safety Coordinator, your role is to help these teams perform their work safely, so you can see the direct impact of your contributions each day.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a four‑year accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Two years of experience in corporate or public safety management functions.
  • Experience must be commensurate with department specialty for the current vacancy.
  • Directly related work experience may be substituted for the formal education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.
Licensing/Certification
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
